Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy Presents

Common Lands and Common Problems:

How public land is used in Belize and Outer Mongolia

Mount Lebanon Nature Conservancy Board Members Pam Burrett and Mike Irwin share their reflections on public land use in Outer Mongolia and Belize. Their experiences highlight problems in the use of common lands that we share with these two dramatically different societies. Pam Burrett will present slides of her recent experiences in post-Soviet Outer Mongolia. She will talk about problems of common land in a society modernizing from its nomadic, pastoral life-style. Mike Irwin will present slides of his recent trips to Belize’s passive use eco-tourism areas. He will discuss successes and tensions in sustainable development on Belizean public lands. Please join us on November 9th at the Annual Meeting of the Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy for their presentation on Sunday, Nov 9th 2-4 pm Meeting Room A in the Mt. Lebanon Public Library.
