
Night Hike at Bird Park
Ready for the spooky season? The full moon will help light the way as we take a fall hike through Bird Park, led by Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy board members. The hike will take place after dark so bring a flashlight!
Child participants should be 10 or older.
Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and appropriate clothing for the weather! Registered participants will be notified of any weather-related change of plans.

Bird Park - Tree Planting and Seed Sowing

Join Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy as we plant 40 trees in the area in the park that the Conservancy has been working on over the last few months. We will also sow seeds during this work day. Film Screening & Panel Discussion (Annual Event)
Join us for a film screening of ‘Seeing the Unseen: Aquatic Invaders & What's At Stake’ and a panel discussion as part of our annual event. After a brief review of the Conservancy’s year, watch this short award winning documentary, shot right here in Pennsylvania!
A panel of experts will discuss the film and answer questions. Panelists include Natalie Drozda (Mt Lebanon Nature Conservancy Board), Amy Jewitt (Pennsylvania iMapInvasives Program Coordinator, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy), and Sara Stahlman (Extension Leader with PA Sea Grant).
Light refreshments will be served after the lecture, so stay and chat with Board members, and learn how you can get involved!

Twin Hills - Clean-Up
Please sign up here!
Join us at the Twin Hills park as we do maintenance work, check the tubes of trees that we have recently planted, do clean up and removal of invasives and clean up around the stairs to provide safety around the walking paths. Please wear long sleeves and pants and bring loppers and shovels if you have them. Remember a water bottle as well.

The largest edible fruit native to the United States tastes like a cross between a banana and a mango. It grows wild in twenty-six states, gracing Eastern forests each fall with sweet-smelling, tropical-flavored abundance. So why have so few people heard of the pawpaw, much less tasted one? Moore will explore the past, present, and future of this remarkable species.

Tennis Triples event supporting Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy
Love tennis? Come out to watch a Labor Day Tennis Triples event in support of Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy.
The tournament will be 9-noon on Labor Day, Monday Sept. 1. at the Mt. Lebanon Tennis Center. Rain date is Sept. 6.
100% of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Conservancy, helping us to continue our efforts to improve Mt. Lebanon’s green spaces and provide great programs.

Summer Walk at Wingfield Pines
Join board members of the Mt Lebanon Nature Conservancy for a walk along some trails and boardwalks at Wingfield Pines, a natural area owned by Allegheny Land Trust. We will hike about 1 mile on an easy trail to view mine drainage cleansing pools, Chartiers Creek, wetlands and woodlands.
Consider weather-appropriate clothing, mosquito/tick repellent, sunblock, and a water bottle!
No toilets on site - closest toilets are across Mayview Rd at Boyce Mayview Park.
Parking in the lower lot is available for registered attendees. Drive past the small upper lot, through the open gates, down the hill to the lower parking area.
Pets are not permitted in this conservation area.

Nature Journaling for Adults
Come join Mt Lebanon Nature Conservancy Board members as we learn about the benefits of nature journaling and then try it out. We will provide all the supplies, including blank journals and colored pencils. If you prefer to bring your own supplies, such as water colors, please feel free. We will also be enjoying some tea and snacks. Come unwind at the end of the day and enjoy an evening journaling in the woods!

Bird Park - School in the Park Trail Prep Day
Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy invites you to join us as we do some trail prep work on various trails at Bird Park to prepare for School in the Park. School in the Park, a program of the Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy in partnership with the Mt. Lebanon School District and the Municipality, began in 1984 and we are pleased to continue this tradition.
It is an interactive nature discovery program for Mt. Lebanon’s 3rd grade students held each spring in Bird Park. The program’s activities support the school district’s third grade science curriculum and provide an opportunity for students to learn about native plants and animals in their woodland habitats and their connections among all living things.
We will be hauling and spreading gravel and mulch to mark the trails and repair muddy locations. Please dress appropriately in a long-sleeved shirt and pants. Bring work gloves, large shovel, rake and/or pitchfork if you have it as well as a water bottle. Meet at the Bird Park pavilion.

Native Plant Sale
Our live Native Plant Sale is back and scheduled for Saturday, May 3 from 10am to 1pm at Sunnyhill Unitarian Universalist Church, 1240 Washington Road, 15228. The perennials will include some choices suitable for sun/shade and dry/wetter conditions. All plants are from North Creek Nurseries, a well-regarded and native plant specialty grower in Southeastern PA. Plants ordered online will be available for pickup at the May 3 sale.

Volunteer with our Native Plant Sale
We are looking for volunteers both on the day before the Native Plant Sale (Friday, May 2) and on the day of the sale (Saturday, May 3).
On Friday, May 2, we will be cutting up plastic flats into strips of plants. Our plants arrive in flats of either 32 or 50 plants, and we need to cut these flats into “strips” for the sale. We have some cutting tools but need many helping hands! If you have extra scissors or other tools that you feel can cut through plastic, please bring them along.
On Saturday, May 3, we will need volunteers on the day of the sale to help with set-up, organizing, and handing out orders along with lots of other tasks.

Join a Conservancy board member on a spring hike through Boyce Mayview Park to search for spring ephemerals. This is an excellent opportunity to explore a green space in neighboring Upper St Clair. Boyce Mayview is known for mayapples, spring beauty, trillium, and more spring wildflowers that are not to be missed!

ONLINE Native Plant Sale Opens
Gardeners, get ready!
Our 2025 ONLINE Native Plant Sale opens 8 a.m. on April 1 for pre-orders. Selections sell out fast, usually in a few days, so don’t delay! Plants are “landscape plugs,” which are small plants with highly developed root systems that tend to establish well. They are sold in strips of 4 or 5 plants, depending on the species. Strips will sell for $25-$27.50, depending on the plant and how much it costs wholesale. A few will be available as single plants.
18 native species are on offer.
Plant pickup will be May 3, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Sunnyhill Unitarian Church, 1240 Washington Road.
There’s also an in-person sale on May 3, with the same plants on offer as via the online sale.

Bird Park - Park Improvement Day
Join Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy as we clear the woodland garden area that we planted last spring. We will be removing and storing tree tubes as well as clearing invasives and cutting brush piles.
