Join the Green Reads Book Group for a lively discussion of George: A Magpie Memoir by Frieda Hughes. Ask at the Mt. Lebanon Library Circulation Desk in October.

The book, illustrated by the author, details the challenges and joys of caring for an abandoned baby magpie in the Welsh countryside. Hughes rears and befriends the intelligent and unruly George while navigating personal struggles, including a failing marriage. A humorous and poignant memoir, the book explores themes of love, loss, and healing through Hughes’s deep bond with the bird.

The Green Reads group meets six times a year (February, March, May, September, October, November) and focuses on books related to nature, conservation, and environmental action. The book group is co-hosted by the library and Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy.
